Please join Ray Hardy, local artist/naturalist, and CTDEEP Master Wildlife Conservationist, who will be discussing the natural history and behavior of Connecticut’s Black Bear. Ray will also discuss practices that we can implement in order to peacefully coexist with this fascinating wild neighbor.
This free program will be held on September 19, 2024 at Bentley Memorial Library, 206 Bolton Center Road, in Bolton, CT, from 6:30pm until 7:30pm.

Come to the patio for an elegant evening of poetry and refreshments where we can appreciate the beauty and power of poetry. Our poet laureate, Bessy Reyna, will share her experiences in becoming a poet and share some of her inspirational poetry and the unexpected sources that inspired her. We will also share the experience of selected poems by other poets to further expand our appreciation of the diversity poetry can offer. Books of poetry for all ages will be on display in the library. (The rain date is September 26th)

Join other artists plein air painting on the Historic Tolland Green and at Hicks-Stearns Family Museum gardens. Artists will have access to both the Tolland Green and the Gardens at Hicks-Stearns Family Museum. Learn about the historic municipal buildings and museums on the Green and enjoy the company of other artists.

Plein Air Painters Gathering
Join Town Historian John Holmy, in collaboration with the Coventry Cemetery Commission and the Coventry Historical Society, for a walking tour of the historic Nathan Hale Cemetery. We will talk about the gravestone carvers represented, Puritan burial practices, and most importantly, we’ll talk about many of the Coventry citizens buried here and what makes them interesting people of note, including of course, Nathan Hale! The Cider Mill Road Race is an annual morning tradition of fitness and fun!
- Cidermill Fun Run- a shorter course for the younger kids!
- The 1 mile race is a cross-country Cider Mile, a trek through the wooded trails at Crandall Park which starts promptly at 9:45 am.
- The Cider Mill 5K — a closed road race which starts at 10:30am.
Prizes are awarded to the top 3 overall finishers and top 3 in age group.
Registration fee for the Cidermill Fun Run and the 1 Miler is $12.00, and the 5K is $30.00. Registration in advance, no race day registration.
The Cider Mill 5K & Family Fun Run is organized by a committee of volunteers who partner with the Tolland Elementary PTO, Tolland Middle School PTO, Tolland High School Booster Club and the Tolland Recreation Department. All proceeds benefit these organizations and their efforts to promote physical fitness within the Tolland community.

Sunday, October 6th at Noon a free Blessing of the Animals will take place on the lawn of Second Congregational Church of Coventry. Everyone is invited to bring their animals, on a leash or in a cage, to this event. Stuffed animals are welcomed. The church is located at 1746 Boston Turnpike (route 44) in Coventry. We will learn why it is called Grant Hill. This is an amazing cemetery to view the work of Puritan era local grave stone carvers Amasa Loomis and Aaron Haskins. We will learn about Coventry citizens buried there like Henry Walker, who ran the town poor house, Hinkel and Mae, retired vaudevillians from the Actor’s Colony, and more! 18th Century Chocolate Making
The Gleaners annual Holiday Fair at Second Congregational Church of Coventry, 1746 Boston Turnpike (rt. 44) will be held on Saturday, November 9th 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the community house. Soup & sandwich will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair includes craft vendors, baked goods, raffle, holiday décor, Cabot cheese, white elephant items and a book room.
